Tours - Scenic
From Nelson the Abel Tasman National Park, Golden Bay, Marlborough,
the West Coast or the Nelson Lakes, whichever direction you travel
in, you will discover a land of unsurpassed beauty.
Go North (Full Day)
Visit the Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand’s smallest
at 225sq
km. Golden beaches border the translucent turquoise sea, and sandy
estuaries fringed by natural beech forests or head for the Kahurangi
National Park which, in contrast is the second largest park in New
Zealand. Kahurangi translates to mean “Treasured Possession”.
The park
is a mixture of dense forest, coastal hiking tracks and alpine peaks.
Or take the winding trip over the Takaka Hill to be rewarded
with panoramic views of Golden Bay from the top. Golden Bay is home
to
the caves and Te Waikoropupu (Pupu) Springs - sacred, tranquil spot
and
the largest freshwater springs in the world with the clearest water
in the
Southern hemisphere.
Go West (Full Day)
A trip south would take you through Wakefield to the Nelson Lakes,
home to
the glacier-carved Lake Rotoiti and Lake Rotoroa, offering stunning
alpine
scenery where small forest birds make their homes in the dense honey-dew
forests. A sanctuary has been created here for the Kiwi, successfully
reintroduced
into the wild.
Go East (Full Day)
Travelling close to the shore line, then heading over the hills
to the
spectacular Pelorus Gorge, Havelock (the Greenshell Mussel capital
of the
World) and Queen Charlotte Sound for breathtaking views of the Sounds.
In the Marlborough region visit Picton and Blenheim and see Kaikoura's
majestic, snow-capped peaks towering or the Wairau Plain and Awatere
Valley, a wine lover's paradise. Marlborough is the largest wine
growing
region in New Zealand. There may be a chance to sample the country’s
finest Sauvignon Blanc.
Nelson Region (Half Day)
On a half day tour you could take in the bright and active City
of Nelson,
the spectacular Cable Bay (sight of the first telegraph cable to
the South
Island from Australia), the beautiful Miyazu Japanese gardens or
the 6
acres collection of the Gardens of the World. Travelling along the
Coastal
Highway you could journey through the wine growing area of Waimea
plains to Mapua to see the historic wharf and Waimea Estuary, the
largest
in the South Island or onto the golden beaches of Kaitieriteri and
Marahau,
the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park.
